Become a Festival Maker at the National Festival of Making 2026!

The National Festival of Making is looking for volunteers to be part of the Festival Weekend this Summer.

Taking over Blackburn town centre on the 4th & 5th of July 2026 the festival is on the lookout for volunteers to fulfil various roles. It would not be possible to run the National Festival of Making without the support of our fantastic volunteers. Every single volunteer helps MAKE our programme happen by getting involved.

National Festival of Making is continuing its partnership with Chip In - a place-based volunteering project. Chip In are working closely with the Festival team to continue developing our volunteering programme and be your point of contact.

Want to become a Festival Maker? Fill in this short form and Becca or Uzma from Chip In will be in touch soon. If you have any questions please get in touch with [email protected] .

By completing this form you will be registered on the Chip In platform and an account will be created for you. You can log in at any time to manage your registration, chat to Chip In directly and check out other volunteer opportunities in the area. Importantly, you can also unsubscribe at any time after you’ve volunteered should you choose www.chipinbwd.co.uk

Which role(s) most interests you?*

This year, we are considering piloting a ‘festival friend’ scheme, where festival visitors would be able to get the assistance of a volunteer who could accompany them for part of their time during the festival. This might include helping someone navigate the town centre, attend an activity, or feel more confident getting started at the festival. Additional training would be provided to support you in this role. Would you be interested in this as a volunteering opportunity? *

What is your availability over the festival weekend? (You can tick more than one box)*

Use this space to tell us a little bit about yourself. If we know about your interests this will help us allocate you a role. Don't worry about having to provide too much information - a few short lines would be perfect!*

Are you volunteering with a friend? If so please let us know their full name and we can try and pair you together.

We will be delivering a mandatory training and information session for volunteers in preparation for the festival on Thursday 2nd July between 5:30 and 7pm. This training session will include a walking tour of the festival map (weather depending).*

In addition to the above one-off session, we would like to offer more opportunities to learn about the festival and support you to have the best volunteering experience - these are not compulsory and there is no expectation that you must complete any/all. If you would be interested in any of the following sessions, please select the box - you can tick as many as you like. We will then send you more information when details are confirmed*

Have you volunteered with the National Festival of Making before?*

Would you be interested in other volunteering opportunities through Chip In in the future?*

How did you hear about this opportunity?

Each volunteer receives a free t-shirt to wear over the festival weekend, please select the size you require.*

Do you have any allergies we should be aware of?*

Do you have an up to date DBS Certificate? (Please note you don't need one to volunteer)*

Check whether your conviction or caution is spent here: www.disclosurecalculator.org.uk and read the guidance at hub.unlock.org.uk/roa.**

We believe that everyone should have the option available for them to be able to volunteer. Please let us know if you have any access requirements or if we can support you in any way. You could use this space to let us know more about your volunteering preferences such as requiring a chair or preferring a quieter space. If you prefer to chat to us, you can email [email protected] or give us a call on 07932 744 594.*
